BackupMost businesses only discover their backup is broken when they need it. Here is the simple rule that prevents that.
SecurityThe quick checks every employee should make before clicking a link.
HardwareWhen an SSD and RAM upgrade is enough — and when it is time for a new machine.
Ask most small businesses about backups and you will hear “yes, we have one.” Ask when it was last tested and the room goes quiet. A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan.
Keep three copies of your important data, on two different types of storage, with one copy kept offsite. For example: the live data on your server, a copy on a NAS in the office, and an encrypted copy in the cloud.
Each copy protects against a different risk. The local NAS gives fast restores after a deleted folder or failed disk. The offsite copy survives fire, theft and ransomware that encrypts everything on your network.
Monitoring and testing. Backup jobs fail silently when disks fill up, passwords change or software updates. Check job results daily and restore a sample of files every month.
Not sure your backups would work? ITSC can review your setup and run a test restore with you.
Phishing is still the most common way attackers get into small businesses. These five checks catch most of them.
Look at the actual address, not just the display name. accounts@yourbank-secure.co is not your bank.
“Your account will be closed today” or “pay this invoice immediately” is designed to stop you thinking.
Hover over links before clicking. If the address shown is not the website you expect, do not click.
Invoices, “scanned documents” and shipping notices you were not expecting are classic malware carriers.
Any request to enter your password or change bank details should be verified by phone using a number you already know.
Clicked something suspicious? Disconnect from the network and call the ITSC helpdesk right away.
A slow laptop is frustrating, but it is not always a reason to buy a new one.
If the laptop is 3–4 years old, still has a solid build and runs a supported OS, replacing a hard disk with an SSD and adding RAM often makes it feel brand new — for a fraction of the price.
Replace when the processor cannot run current software well, the device is no longer supported by Windows updates, parts are unavailable, or repairs would cost more than half of a new device.
Before any upgrade or replacement, back up the data and plan the migration of files, email and settings.
Want an honest recommendation? ITSC can check your devices and tell you which are worth upgrading.
An Annual Maintenance Contract replaces unpredictable repair bills with a fixed yearly cost and scheduled preventive care.
Preventive visits, priority response, an up-to-date asset register and one team that knows your setup.
If you have more than a handful of devices, depend on a server or accounting system, or cannot afford downtime at busy times, an AMC usually pays for itself through fewer breakdowns and faster fixes.
Want a quote? We survey your equipment and give you a clear, itemised AMC proposal.
A single router in a corner cabin cannot cover a whole floor. Walls, glass and metal all weaken the signal.
Phones, laptops, guests and cameras all compete for the same airtime. Separate guest and device networks help.
Home routers are not designed for 30 users. Business access points handle many connections and let devices roam smoothly.
A quick coverage survey shows exactly where the dead zones are; the right number of well-placed access points usually solves the problem.
Most hacked email accounts are the result of stolen or guessed passwords. Multi-factor authentication adds a second check — usually an app notification on your phone — so a stolen password alone is not enough.
Not really. With “remember this device” options, most users only approve sign-ins occasionally.
